Newhan underwent surgery in Baltimore on Thursday for the fractured right fibula he suffered Monday night while stealing second base. The Baltimore Sun reports that he had a torn deltoid ligament, but ligament and muscle damage was far less severe than feared. Orioles trainer Richie Bancells said Newhan, who was placed on the 60-day disabled list on Wednesday, will be in a splint for two weeks and is expected not to put weight on his lower leg for four weeks.
