Davis will miss Thursday's scheduled start against the Chicago Cubs because of a stiff back. The Brewers' left-hander has allowed three earned runs or less in five straight starts, but has only one win in that span. "Since his last start, he locked up," Brewers manager Ned Yost said of Davis. "It's gotten better but not the point where he can make his start."

Analysis: Davis is 4-5 with a 4.82 ERA in 17 starts for the Brewers this season. Geremi Gonzalez will take the mound in Davis' place Thursday and Rick Helling will be ready if needed. Gonzalez has made seven appearances for Milwaukee, including three starts, but has not factored into any decisions and has a 6.08 ERA.
