Harang was scratched from his spring training start Thursday because of right shoulder inflammation. Reds trainer Mark Mann told the Cincinnati Enquirer that the right-hander has been bothered by mild inflammation over the last week, but it's not considered serious. The Reds are not pursuing an X-ray or MRI exam. (Updated 3/9/2006) Analysis: Harang isn't a No. 1 starter type, but that could be his role in the Reds' rotation. He'll have to get healthy in time to work the season opener against the Chicago Cubs on April 3. Harang joins Paul Wilson (rehab from shoulder surgery) and Eric Milton (calf strain) as starting pitchers battling injuries this spring.
