With an impressive showing in camp this spring, Barfield has claimed San Diego's second-base job over veteran Mark Bellhorn. Barfield has batted .386 and slugged .705 in 16 spring games, going 17-for-44 with nine doubles, a triple and a homer. He has scored 16 runs and driven in 12. (Updated 3/28/2006) Analysis: Barfield, who hasn't made an appearance in the majors, batted .310 with a .370 on-base percentage, 15 homers and 72 RBIs in 137 games for Triple-A Portland in 2005.
