Kubel was scratched from Thursday's starting lineup against the Cleveland Indians because of soreness in both knees. The 24-year-old outfielder, who did pinch-hit in the ninth, said he thought fatigue in the left knee might be causing soreness in the right one. "He thought the All-Star break would clear it up and help him get by, but it hasn't happened," manager Ron Gardenhire said. (Updated 7/14/2006) Analysis: Kubel, a rookie who became an everyday player last month, is hitting .289 with seven homers and 24 RBIs in 135 at-bats. He missed the 2005 season with extensive ligament damage to his left knee.
