Hamels was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a strain in his left shoulder. The Phillies' rookie left-hander was scratched from his third major league start when he experienced posterior shoulder symptoms while throwing during batting practice on Tuesday. Hamels returned to Philadelphia and was looked at by team physician Dr. Michael Ciccotti. (Updated 5/25/2006) Analysis: Hamels, arguably the Phillies' top pitching prospect, threw a one-hitter over shutout five innings in his major league debut on May 12, but did not receive a decision in an 8-4 win over Cincinnati. He allowed four runs and five hits over 6 1-3 innings of a 5-4 loss to Milwaukee on May 18, but also failed to get a decision. Philadelphia called up right-hander Clay Condrey from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre to replace Hamels.
