The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Nomar Garciaparra on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and recalled Loney to take his place. The 21-year-old rookie, who has never played above the Double-A level, went 1-for-3 with a walk Tuesday night in his major league debut. Loney, batting fifth for the Dodgers, debuted by walking and scoring in a four-run first inning. He singled off John Smoltz in the third inning for his first big league hit. (Updated 4/5/2006) Analysis: Loney has impressed the Dodgers in spring training the last three years. Look for him to play his share of games until Garciaparra returns. Garciaparra hopes to be ready when he is eligible to come off the DL in two weeks.
