Sampson was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday night so the Astros could make room on the roster for right-hander Roger Clemens. Sampson made four appearances, including one start, after he was called up from Round Rock on June 2. The 28-year-old rookie pitched seven strong innings in a 1-0 win over the Cubs on June 7, allowing only three hits and a walk.
