Fata was claimed off waivers by the Washington Capitals from the Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday.

Analysis: Fata earned one assist in six games with the Thrashers this season. A sixth overall selection in the 1998 NHL draft by the Calgary Flames, Fata will be playing on his fifth NHL team in his seven-year career. He also spent time with the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
