Adam Mair
Mair, returning from a concussion, was cleared for contact on Thursday. The Buffalo Sabres center had been out since early April and still needs to pass concussion-related tests before he can play in Buffalo's Eastern Conference final series against the Carolina Hurricanes. Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said Mair will see a specialist in Pittsburgh and isn't likely to be ready to play at the start of the series that begins Saturday in Raleigh, N.C.

Analysis: Mair has spent the past few weeks skating with the team but hasn't played since sustaining his second concussion in three months in Buffalo's 4-2 loss to Philadelphia on April 7. That was the third game he played after returning to the lineup following a 31-game absence due to aftereffects of a concussion. He had two goals and five assists in 40 games this season, his third with Buffalo.
