Gionta scored his 47th and 48th goals to help New Jersey win its 11th straight, 4-3 over Montreal, and clinch an improbable Atlantic Division title. The right wing extended his point streak to 15 games, tying the club record set by teammate Patrik Elias during the 1999-2000 season, and broke a tie with Pat Verbeek for the single-season team goal-scoring record.
