Thomas Vanek
Vanek picked up two assists in Buffalo's 4-3 shootout win over Tampa Bay on Thursday. The rookie winger, the fifth overall pick in the 2003 draft just prior to the lockout, has four assists in his first five NHL games for the Sabres.

Analysis: Vanek also scored in the shootout, helping the Sabres to the win. It's says something for his skills that the rookie was chosen as one of Buffalo's three shootout performers.
