Eric Weinrich
Weinrich announced his retirement from pro hockey Friday. The Vancouver Canucks defenseman played 17 seasons in the NHL and decided to take a minor league coaching position with the AHL Portland Pirates. Weinrich would be joining a coaching staff headed by Kevin Dineen, who ended his glorious NHL career in 2002-03 before being named the AHL's outstanding coach in his first season behind a bench in 2005-06.

Analysis: Weinrich split last season with the St. Louis Blues and Vancouver, recording one goal and 16 assists in 75 games. In 17 seasons with the New Jersey Devils, Hartford Whalers, Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Blues and Canucks, the 39-year-old had 70 goals, 318 assists and 825 penalty minutes in 1,157 contests.
