The Bruins bought out the final year of Green's contract Friday. Under terms of the collective bargaining agreement, Green will receive two-thirds of what he would've earned next season and will become an unrestricted free agent Saturday. The 35-year-old Boston center was scheduled to earn $700,000, but will receive $462,000.

Analysis: Green, who twice has scored 25 goals in a season, had just 10 in 82 games with the Bruins in 2005-06. The 13-year veteran has 192 goals and 453 points in 939 games with the New York Islanders, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes, Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston.
