Scott Thornton
San Jose declined the option on Thornton on Wednesday, allowing the 35-year-old left wing to become a free agent. The option was worth more than $1.5 million, but the Sharks declined to pick it up and then trade him to another team. Thornton _ the cousin of Sharks center Joe Thornton, the NHL scoring champion _ had 21 points for San Jose last season.

Analysis: Thornton was the Sharks' oldest player last season. He's also played for Toronto, Edmonton, Montreal and Dallas in his 15-year career.
