Zigmund Palffy
Leaving Pittsburgh without its second leading scorer, Palffy announced Wednesday he is retiring due to personal reasons. The 33-year-old right wing has 11 goals and 31 assists in 42 games this season, but has consistently struggled with a persisting shoulder injury. He injured his right shoulder playing for the Los Angeles Kings in January 2004 and has had reconstructive surgery twice, yet the injury continues to be a burden.

Analysis: Palffy, the second free agent the Penguins have lost to injury this season, signed a three-year, $13.5 million contract in August. He has been in the NHL for 12 years.
